Get In Touch

I am a visual artist and writer. I was raised in north Georgia. Now I live in Chattanooga, TN, with my husband, son, and cat. I am a member of Clear Story Arts Gallery and my work is part of its December 2023 show.

I am a self-taught artist. Except the Magician who lived up the hill taught me to draw an EYE when I was a little girl. And my mother was an artist. And all those paint by numbers and painting in art classes in grammar school. And a minor in Art History. And being a poet, too. Being a poet is part of everything.

I have published two collections of poems–The Terrible Baby (2006) and I Will Not Give Over (2013); a novel–Click (2014); a bilingual collection of poems with Romanian poet Talvescu Dumitru The Shadow of Water (2016); and an erasure, The Best Man in the World (2017), with poet Jenny Sadre-Orafai.

My poems, stories, and essays have been published in print and online journals including The Georgia Review, The New England Review, The Rumpus, and The Nervous Breakdown. My poem, “Onion Skin” (Psaltery & Lyre, 2021), was nominated for a Pushcart. Read work here.

I work as co-translator with Olimpia Iacob and together we have translated numerous Romanian poems and several poetry collections to the English. Recently I provided commentary in The Seventh Quarry’s special issue (English/Romanian, 2019) dedicated to the late poet and dramatist Robin Metz, and in Shaking the Feathers of Sleep (English/Romanian, 2022), a celebration of the poems and art of the late British surrealist poet John Digby.

I am eager to share my work with you. If you are interested in hosting a reading or viewing, please contact me via email– rebeccacookwriter@gmail.com. I am also available to help you with your writing–any project, any level.
